Euro 2016: A Personal View by Jon Arnold

The Summer of 2016, as told by a Welshman living in Northern Ireland.

In the summer of 2016, Jon Arnold sat down to watch every single game at Euro 2016. Then he wrote about them.

Real life kept intruding. Work, family, and in the middle of the tournament, a slight contretemps called the Brexit vote. All of which coloured the tournament.

Alongside two old friends, here is his journey. Find out who the pantomine villains of European football are, and who many links you can find in one tournament to Southampton FC. But fundamentally, this is the story of a fan of a no hoper at a big tournament, that kept on going.

Jon Arnold is the co-editor of Shooty Dog Thing: 2th and Claw. His work has appeared in books including Shooty Dog Thing, both Outside In volumes, Time Unincorporated 3, the You and Who series, Shelf Life, The Twelve Doctors of Christmas, Terrors of the Theatre Diabolique as well as in innumerable fanzines and on websites such as The Two Unfortunates and Winterwind Productions. He’s also an occasional contributor to the Reality Bomb podcast. Current projects include his proofreading business and collaborating on radio scripts. He tweets as @The_Arn and blogs at Pop Culture Vulture.
